Randi The Wild Turkey Killed In Crash In North Aurora: Village

NORTH AURORA, IL — Randi, a wild turkey known for regularly crossing Randall Road in North Aurora, was killed in a crash, village officials announced Friday.

"Randi has done what no other wild turkey has done in the history of our town and brought together a community," village officials wrote in a Facebook post announcing her death.

Just last month on Valentine's Day, a sign was erected to pave the way for "our feathered friend who may be in the area" to safely cross Randall Road approaching the intersection with Mooseheart Road/Orchard Road, according to village officials.

"There are other signs around everywhere about deer crossing or what have you, so I just thought it would be fun," President Mark Gaffino said at a Village Board meeting, per a Chicago Tribune report.

It was at the very intersection where Randi also died, officials said.

"We have all witnessed her so many times at our Randall Road and Orchard Road intersection where she brought so many smiles to all who spotted her," reads the post about Randi. "We know how much our community loved this wild turkey and we are all going to miss being able to call out Randi sightings on our travels and posting photos on our community groups."

The village's Facebook post was met with a plethora of comments, with many social media users expressing sadness about Randi's passing and others sharing how sightings positively impacted their days.

"Aw..very saddened to learn of her passing," one comment read. "My husband & I are among many 'fans' of Randi & catching glimpses of her. Glad we spotted her earlier this week. What fun she provided for the community."

"Honestly heartbroken, truly loved seeing her everyday but it’s wholeheartedly a beautiful thing how she brought us and our community together! Fly high beautiful," someone wrote.

"The turkey was so smart and knew when to cross," one person said. "She did like twice in front of me. Super safe every time."

"I think we should have a little statue made for Randi," another person commented. "She brought me so much joy every day. I would look for her every time I drove through the intersection."
