AURORA, IL — Some Aurora residents were in a state of panic Wednesday after someone reported seeing a person with a gun in the 200 block of Prairie Street. Police are trying to locate the person, whom they say may or may not have had a weapon.

The report sent a stir throughout the community, which is still reeling from the deadly Feb. 15 shooting at Henry Pratt Manufacturing. Aurora Police spokesperson Paris Lewbel said there is no active shooter, despite talk among residents.

Lewbel said the report prompted police to close businesses in the area and urge residents to keep their doors closed and locked as an additional precaution. He added that BNSF traffic was temporary halted as police searched for the person.
