Scammers Pose As Aurora Cops, Ask For Social Security Numbers

Police say the callers pretend to be from the Aurora Police Department and tell the victim they will issue a warrant for their arrest.

AURORA, IL — Aurora police are warning residents about a recent scam in which the person calling pretends to be a member of the Aurora Police Department in an attempt to get the victim's social security number. Police say the phone call will even appear to be from the Aurora Police Department.

According to a social media post, the scam calls have been coming from phone number 630-256-5000. Once the intended victim is on the line, the caller requests their social security number and threatens to issue a warrant if the victim does not cooperate.

Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman said on Facebook that the calls are not coming from the Aurora Police Department and that residents should not respond. Ziman added that the Aurora Police Department is currently working to discover the actual origin of the calls.
