Teens Charged After Aurora Shooting That Wounded Boy, 16
Police say the shooting left the teen in serious condition and led to a four-minute police chase.

AURORA, IL — Two teens have been charged with a shooting in Aurora that left a 16-year-old boy in critical condition Tuesday. Jose Soto, 18, of the 200 block of Butterfield Road, Aurora, and Diego Rubio, 18, of the 600 block of Gladstone Avenue, Aurora, have been charged in connection with the shooting and subsequent police chase.
Police say they were called to the 600 block of Second Avenue around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a shooting. When police got to the scene, they say they found the 16-year-old with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
After interviewing witnesses, police say they learned that the 16-year-old approached Soto while Soto was in a car. According to police, Soto fired multiple shots at the teen before fleeing in the car.

Officers saw a vehicle that matched the description of the one Soto was in and attempted to pull him over, but they say he failed to stop. Police say they pursued the car for four minutes before it hit a curb near Summerhill and Jericho in Aurora Township.
Soto, Rubio and others were taken into custody without further incident. Police say they found an illegal handgun inside the car.

Soto was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and manufacturing/delivering cannabis. Rubio was charged with aggravated fleeing of a police officer for his role in the chase.
