Aurora Woman Fatally Shot On Front Porch 'Not Intended Target'

Police say Maritza Cazares, 19, was not the intended target of the fatal shooting.

AURORA, IL — A 19-year-old woman was fatally shot in Aurora while sitting on her porch late Friday. Police say Maritza Cazares, 19, was not the intended target of the fatal shooting, which they believe was not a random act. The shooting took place in the 400 block of East Benton just before 10:30 p.m., police said.

When police got to the scene, they say they found the woman on the front porch with multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Several hours after the shooting, police were still on the scene looking for suspects, and forensics specialists were still collecting evidence.

In the wake of Cazares's murder, local auto repair shop Lazu's, at 1011 East New York St., is serving up free food for donations that will be given to Maritza's family.
