District 220 Completes Renovations at 9 Schools

The Barrington 220 School District was hard at work this summer renovating and upgrading their properties in anticipation of the 2011-2012 school year.  

During the 11-week break, the district successfully completed construction projects on nine of the 12 schools in the district both on time and within budget.

Summer construction projects include:

• Arnett C. Lines Elementary School: Installed new roof
• Barrington High School: Installed new roof in sections
• Renovated student locker rooms adjacent to gymnasium area, renovated the technology lab
• Installed new uninterruptible power supply battery
• Installed new library/multimedia center furniture
• Installed new playground, replaced carpeting in classrooms
• Extended sidewalks to enhance pedestrian safety
• installed new uninterruptible power supply battery
• Installed new playground

“We usually spend dollars similar to this, or in some years, even more,” Superintendent Tom Leonard said. “With the number of facilities we have, there’s always something to be done just to maintain them.”

One of the major renovations done within the district took place at Barrington Middle School-Station Campus in upgrading the locker rooms.

“That was a big ticket item,” Leonard said. “We now have Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible bathrooms and better lighting. We also have lockers that are workable to safely store things.”

Also at the Station Campus, new lighting was installed in the gym, making things more energy and cost efficient.

Another major renovation was completed at North Barrington Elementary School.

“We put up some sidewalks which makes it safer for our kids to walk to school,” Leonard said.

Barrington 220 students in grades 1-12 return to school August 23. Kindergarten and early childhood students start the year on Aug. 24. See the district’s full calendar at barrington220.org.
