Introducing a new Continuing Education course at Harper College: Blogging! An Introduction to WordPress. This course is offered on Thursday evenings, starting February 19th through March 19th, 2015, from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm.

Blogging has skyrocketed since its humble origins in the mid-1990s, when it was known as “logging the web”. WordPress.com, a leading blog publishing site, cites 400 million people currently view over 15 billion of their pages each month. Blogs about subjects from aardvarks to zucchini, and everything in between, are followed by interested readers. The only thing missing from the blogosphere now is your unique voice.

If you have ever wanted to venture into the exciting world of blogging, but didn’t know where to start, this is the course for you. WordPress is a great option for beginners and experienced bloggers alike, as it offers great flexibility and is easy and free to use. Pingdom, a website and performance monitoring company, estimates that in 2012, 48% of the top 100 blogs run WordPress This class will walk you through the process of setting up your blog site, from registration to making your first blog entry. Basic blogging options and techniques will be reviewed, to encourage you to continue a successful journey in blogging.

Ms. Ehrke is a freelance writer who has studied writing at Northwestern University and earned a Master of Liberal Arts degree from the University of Chicago. She has writing experience as a columnist, feature writer, blogger, corporate staff member, public relations specialist, and creative writer. Her first novel is under contract to be published.
