Community Corner

June First Friday

Here at Lakeside, we know commuting to and from the city is not
always enjoyable. Not only does it take a lot of time, it also gets pricey. For
this reason and so many more, the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park is proud to bring
the community art and cultural events. Have you ever been to the Art Institute
of Chicago? There is no need to make the trip into the city because Lakeside is
bringing a high caliber art show to Crystal Lake.

Lakeside Legacy Arts Park at the Historic Dole Mansion in Crystal
Lake hosts a monthly art show called First Friday that is the perfect, local
event. The public is welcome at the upcoming showcase on Friday, June 6th
from 5 to 8 p.m., which is free to attend but donations are appreciated, as
Lakeside is a 501(c)3 charitable organization.

Lakeside Legacy Arts Park’s First Friday provides the community
with a cultural evening consisting of art, live music, complimentary
appetizers, and a cash bar. In addition to showcasing local and regional
artists, these monthly events are designed to showcase the beautiful property
and encourage the community to explore and experience the arts. Donations at
First Friday support the organizations mission, which is to protect and
preserve the historic Dole Mansion and Arts Park for generations to come while
being a creative cultural arts center offering programs, events, and concerts
for the community to enjoy.

The June 6th exhibits are titled “Divergent Roads”
and “Color Splash”, which features countless artists specializing in
watercolor, oil painting, and pastel. “Divergent Roads” by the Watercooler
Sisters will be in the Dole Gallery and “Color Splash” by the Lakes Region
Watercolor Guild will be featured in the Sage Gallery. Also, in the Sage
Gallery will be a floral installation by Joyce Konstantinow, the owner of
McHenry’s Blooms and Rooms and Studio Farmhouse. The installation is an
interpretation of waterscapes and her designs create the illusion of water.

The Watercooler Sisters are a group of ten women who have the
common desire to express themselves in painting and drawing to explore new
media, support each other’s efforts, and have lots of laughs together. They
paint in various media, such as: oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, casein, pen,
ink, and combinations of each. June’s First Friday will be the first time the
Watercooler Sisters have exhibited together and their works were done in
watercolor, oil painting, and pastel.

The Lakes Region Watercolor Guild’s purpose is to enhance,
enrich, and further work in watercolor while promoting a better understanding
of creative art. During the June First Friday exhibit, they will be evoking
summertime pleasures, like sipping lemonade, sunbathing, blooming gardens, and
sunsets through their work.
