ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Police have released a composite sketch and potential surveillance image of a suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated battery near Lake Arlington.

The attack happened at around 11:15 p.m. June 7, near Lake Arlington, in the area of Windsor Drive and Jonquil Circle, according to police.

Working with the victim, an Arlington Heights Police Department forensic composite artist developed a sketch of the suspect, police said in a Wednesday update.

The suspect is described as a Black man, about 6 feet tall, with an average to muscular build, long braided hair that was tied back at the time of the attack and circular-framed glasses. Police said he was reportedly wearing all black clothing and was seen by the victim riding a bicycle before the attack.

Detectives are continuing to canvass the area for surveillance footage that may have captured the suspect before or after the attack, police said.

Police said detectives also recovered a potential image of the suspect from a business around the time of the attack. The image appears to show someone matching the description provided by the victim riding a bicycle south on Buffalo Grove Road from Dundee Road toward the Lake Arlington area, according to police.

The potential suspect in the case is seen here in surveillance footage released by police.

The June 7 attack was first reported after a Good Samaritan driving on Windsor Drive called 911 after being flagged down by an 18-year-old woman who was distressed on the side of the road, according to police.

The woman told police she was walking home when she was approached by an unknown man riding a bicycle. The man asked, “What’s your name?” before grabbing the woman, pushing her to the ground and choking her, authorities said.

The woman was able to fight off the attack, flee and get the attention of the passing motorist, police said. She sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was reunited with her family.

Anyone who recognizes the person depicted in the composite sketch or surveillance image is asked to call 911 or contact the Arlington Heights Police Department at 847-368-5300.

Detectives are also asking residents and businesses to review any surveillance footage from the late evening hours of June 7 for images that may help the investigation. Because the suspect was traveling by bicycle, police said residents should consider reviewing footage even if their cameras are not in the immediate vicinity of the attack.

Police also asked community members to share the composite sketch and surveillance image with family, friends and co-workers.

The Arlington Heights Police Department said it has increased proactive patrols in the Lake Arlington area, including roadways, pedestrian and bicycle paths, and nearby neighborhoods.

Residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings, report suspicious activity and call 911 whenever they feel unsafe, police said.
