Palatine Township Kicks of 'Apple Tree Campaign' July 4th

Now in its 27th year, the program provides for collection and distribution of school supplies and backpacks for under-resourced children.

Palatine Township is seeking community support to participate in the annual Apple Tree Campaign. Now in its 27th year, the program will provide for the collection and distribution of school supplies for under-resourced children to be used during 2015-2016 school year.

Collection efforts kick off on July 4 during the Hometown Fest Parade. Members of the community are asked to donate new school supplies and backpacks, as well as non-perishable food to help replenish the Palatine Township Food Pantry.

New school supplies and backpacks will continue to be accepted from July 6 through August 10 at a number of drop-off locations throughout the Township including: Palatine Township building, 721 S. Quentin Road, Palatine Park District, 250 E. Wood St., Palatine Public Library, 700 N. Court and Village of Palatine, 150 W. Wilson St. in addition to several other locations. A full list of locations where collection boxes will be located, and of needed school supplies can be found at www.PalatineTownship.com/apple-tree-campaign/.

“This Apple Tree Campaign is a long-standing, special program created by the Township more than 25 years ago that provides much needed school supplies for local children so their focus can be on learning,” said Sharon Langlotz-Johnson, Palatine Township Supervisor.

Monetary donations and checks made payable to ‘Palatine Township Needy Family Fund’ will be accepted to purchase needed items. Volunteers are also being sought to set up and maintain collection sites, sort supplies and assist on distribution days. Distribution of school supplies will be held from August 13-15 at the Township Center.
