• York's Janowski, Barrington girls show they're in midseason form at Palatine meet (dailyherald.com) — Barrington High School's girls cross country team looked dominant at Saturday's Palatine Invitational, placing four runners in the top 10 and winning the team title. Star runner Mia Sirois is still returning from illness and past injury, but coaches say she's improving quickly. Several other suburban schools, including Lake Zurich and Fremd, also posted strong boys and girls results.
   

• Lowest price for premium gas in Lake County at $4.93 in week ending Sept. 19 (lakecountygazette.com) — Premium gas prices around Barrington and the rest of Lake County stayed high in the week ending Sept. 19, with the countywide low at $4.93 per gallon and an average of $5.81. A long list of towns, including Barrington, saw prices clustered in the mid-$5 range. Analysts blame global conflicts, refinery issues, and seasonal demand for the ongoing volatility.
   

• Elderly woman gets confused and drives down railroad tracks, causing trains to be halted in Barrington (lakemchenryscanner.com) — Train service through downtown Barrington was briefly halted September 19 after an elderly driver accidentally turned onto the Union Pacific Northwest Line tracks behind the Jewel-Osco on West Main Street, forcing police to guide her SUV back to safety. The stoppage came just a day after a separate crash at Route 14 and Hart Road, where a Metra train struck a car, fatally injuring a Carpentersville man later treated at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
