📰 News we're reading

• Illinois tollway imposes 57% hikes on cars and 30% for trucks, with more to come (chicagotribune.com) — If you commute from Barrington to downtown via I-90, your annual toll costs are projected to jump from about $600 this year to $950 in 2027, with further increases tied to inflation after that. Illinois tollway officials say the hikes will fund a massive 15-year, $26.5 billion program to reduce congestion and modernize the system, but many drivers worry about the added financial strain.

• Chicagoland high school football rankings: Get Mike McGraw's Top 25 for Week 1 (dailyherald.com) — Barrington football fans can look forward to another strong Broncos season, as the team is ranked 23rd in Chicagoland and favored to repeat as MSL West champions behind running back Lamar Osterhues and a veteran offensive line. The rankings preview key matchups across the suburbs, with Barrington opening on the road at Lyons this Friday night.

• Jill E. McCaw (boonecountydailynews.com) — Many longtime residents may remember Jill Elaine (Showers) McCaw, who graduated from high school in Barrington in 1974 and went on to a long career in the steel industry and healthcare. She later settled in Missouri, where she built a close-knit family, and her visitation and services will be held this week in Mexico, Missouri and Lebanon, Indiana.
