The two people were driving on South Kirk Road in Batavia Monday afternoon when they were involved in a six-vehicle crash, police said.
BATAVIA, IL — Two Aurora residents have been identified as those killed in a six-vehicle crash in the 1300 block of South Kirk Road in Batavia Monday afternoon, police said.
Violette Uwumuremyi and 58-year-old Anastasie Nyiramanyenzi, both of the 800 block of South Lake Street, were driving on North Kirk Road, just south of Giese Road around 1:36 p.m. Monday.
Uwumuremyi, 50, the driver of a silver Ford Taurus, attempted to lane change in front of a semi-truck pulling a trailer when the car hit the front passenger side of the truck, losing control, according to the preliminary investigation using eyewitnesses and video evidence, police said.

The Taurus entered the southbound lane where it hit a black Volkswagen Jetta and began tumbling before it was again hit by a silver Ford Escape that had been driving behind the Jetta, according to Batavia police. The Taurus landed on its roof after hitting the rear of a semi-truck carrying a fuel tank.

No hazardous materials leaked from the fuel tank, according to officials.
Police said the Ford Escape lost control and hit the front end of a white Chevrolet Traverse that was driving north on South Kirk Road.
The occupants of the Jetta — a 26-year-old woman from Aurora and her 1-year-old daughter — were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said they were treated and released.
All other drivers involved in the crash reported no injuries and declined medical treatment, police said.
No citations have been issued as of Tuesday evening, Batavia police said. The investigation is open and active.
"We would like to thank all those who came forward as witnesses in this investigation," Batavia police said in a news release.
