Coronavirus: 20 Confirmed Cases in Batavia As Of Tuesday
Public health data shows 20 people in Batavia have tested positive for the new coronavirus, but no deaths have yet been linked to the virus.
BATAVIA, IL — The number of people in Batavia confirmed to have the new coronavirus have quadrupled since the start of the month, according to public health data. Statistics from the Kane County Department of Health show 20 people in the city have tested positive for the coronavirus but no deaths have yet been linked to the outbreak, as of Tuesday. Officials announced just five confirmed cases in Batavia on April 2.
“Batavia enjoys one of the lowest rates of corona(virus) infection of any city in the Chicagoland area,” Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke said Thursday. “Batavia’s standing pretty tall and we want to make sure that we keep all the Batavia residents very healthy.”

Schielke said in his video update he is encouraged by the cooperation he’s seen between Batavia and other local municipalities during their response to the coronavirus outbreak in Illinois.

As of Monday, Kane County has seen 36 coronavirus deaths, according to Coroner Rob Russell. Russell announced Monday that more than 230 people tested positive for the new coronavirus and 11 people died from related complications over the previous week in Kane County.
Since the county's first confirmed case was reported March 10, 725 people have tested positive, public health data shows.
