BATAVIA, IL — A vaccine mandate for workplaces in Batavia and surrounding communities might be forthcoming, but nothing has been set in stone. To provide an update on the situation, Fox Valley Chambers of Commerce organizations are partnering to host a webinar Wednesday.

"This is a fluid situation," reads a Monday newsletter from the Batavia Chamber of Commerce. "We have joined other Fox Valley Chambers of Commerce to offer you an update webinar."

On Saturday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily halted the Biden administration's vaccine requirement for businesses with 100 or more workers. Under the mandate, workers were required to be vaccinated by Jan. 4 or be settled with mask requirements and weekly testing, Patch reported.

Organizers of the upcoming Zoom webinar said deciding to mandate vaccinations and implement the requirement "in a legally compliant manner is no easy feat."

Attorney Michael Wong, a partner at the law firm SmithAmundsen, which has offices in St. Charles and Chicago as well as in other states, will present from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In that time, he'll discuss the status of the latest state and federal vaccine and masking mandates, along with how employers can implement policies while doing so in a legal manner.

The webinar is offered to shed light on a time when "an employment universe ... now intermingles with health related issues."

People interested in attending the free event can register on the Batavia Chamber of Commerce's website to receive the Zoom link.

For Illinois residents around Batavia looking to vaccinate themselves or their children, the Kane Vax Hub — located at 501 N. Randall Road — offers doses of regular, booster and pediatric COVID-19 vaccines.

Children will be able to get vaccinated with Pfizer doses starting Wednesday at the hub, where appointments are encouraged.
