18-Year-Old Charged In Carjacking, Attempted Robbery
Chicago police said the 18-year-old man took a car by force and attempted robbery at a Beverly business.

CHICAGO — An 18-year-old Chicago man faces ten assorted felonies and misdemeanors for his role in a carjacking that happened Monday in Beverly, Chicago police said. Monte Handley was arrested and charged early Tuesday morning.
Handley faces five felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, attempted robbery, aggravated fleeing from police, aggravated fleeing with property damage, and aggravated fleeing with a 2-way communications device – all felonies. He is also charged with misdemeanor unlawful damage to a highway, driving without a license, driving on a revoked license, speeding 35mph over the speed limit, resisting and obstructing a peace officer, along with additional traffic citations.
Handley took a vehicle by force from a 26-year-old woman in the 5000 block of South Kolin Avenue in Jan. 17, according to police. He was also identified in connection to an attempted robbery that happened early Tuesday morning at a business in the 1600 block of West 95th Street in the 22nd Chicago Police District, police said.

Handley was spotted inside the woman’s vehicle and tried to flee from officers before he was taken into custody, police said. He was taken into custody and charged accordingly. He is being held without bond in Cook County Jail. Handley is due back in court Jan. 26.
