3 Charged In Beverly Shooting Of Off-Duty CPD Officer Plead Not Guilty
Three men charged in the shooting of an off-duty Chicago police officer that left him paralyzed pleaded not guilty at their arraignment.
CHICAGO — Three men charged in the shooting of off-duty Chicago Police Officer Danny Golden that left him partially paralyzed pleaded not guilty in court Thursday.
Bryant Hayes, 22, of Chicago, Justen Krismantis, 22, of Chebanse, IL, and Demitrius Harrel, 28, of Chicago Ridge, were arraigned on attempted murder charges.
Prosecutors said Golden was trying to break up a fight outside of Sean’s Rhino Bar in the early morning hours of July 9, after a charity softball tournament.

Krismantis ran back to his car and retrieved a gun, which prosecutors said he handed to Hayes, who shot in the direction of Golden. The three joked about the shooting afterward in text messages, prosecutors said.

Golden is paralyzed and continues his long recovery in a rehabilitation facility.
The three are being held without bail at Cook County Jail. The case been continued to Thursday, Oct. 13.
Ald. Matt O’Shea, whose ward is home to many Chicago police officers and firefighters, called the shooting “a heinous and horrific crime,” and said he planned to attend future court hearings.
Chicago Garda Pipes and Drums are sponsoring a benefit for Golden at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N Knox Ave, Chicago. Tickets are $50 in advance, $60 at the door, and include all food and entertainment. Tickets can be purchased online.
