4 Injured When Rock Island Train Hits Car In Morgan Park

The car reportedly went around the gate at 115th Street and Marshfield, Metra officials said.

CHICAGO — An inbound Rock Island train struck a car Monday morning in Morgan Park. Four people were injured, one critically. The driver was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center with injuries.

Rock Island 302 hit the rear of a vehicle at 115th Street and Marshfield around 7:25 a.m. The train struck the back of the vehicle that had gone around the gate, Metra officials said. The driver, a woman, had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The train also incurred some minor damage. Metra mechanical crews reported to the scene and were able to get the train moving within an hour. Since both tracks were blocked, all Rock Island trains used the Beverly branch until the tracks were cleared. Eight trains were delayed between six and 68 minutes.
