Boil Order Lifted For All South Side Communities

The boil order is lifted for all the South Side communities affected by a water main break at the Roseland Pumping Station.

CHICAGO — Updated 11:53 a.m. — The Chicago Department of Water Management has lifted a boil order that was in effect for residents following a water main break at the century-old Roseland Pumping Station.

All communities have been cleared of the boil order, including Beverly, Morgan Park, Auburn Gresham, Evergreen Park, Merrionette Park and Blue Island.

The Roseland Pumping Station experienced a mechanical failure Tuesday evening creating outages throughout parts of several South Side communities. Repair crews responded quickly and restored water service.

Water should be brought to a full rolling boil for at least five minutes to ensure that it is safe for consumption. Boiled water may be stored at room temperature or refrigerated in a closed container until needed. This includes water for drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods, washing dishes, brushing teeth, or any other activity involving the consumption of water.

Water for laundry, watering lawns and taking showers need not be boiled.

Free bottled water is available to people in the affected area at Ridge Park, 9625 S. Longwood Ave.

This order will be rescinded as soon as the Department of Water Management’s water testing verifies that it is safe to drink.
