“1619: The Journey of a People, The Musical” has won critical acclaim for its extraordinary song, dance, and multiple performance pieces tracing the African American journey from when the first 20 enslaved Africans landed at [Old] Point Comfort, Virginia. The playwright, Ted Williams III, has taught political science at Wright College and Chicago State University, and is currently chair of the Social Sciences Department at Kennedy-King College. By combining both events, organizers hope to spark a meaningful conversation about Black History Month.
