Chicago, IL — A kind gesture by two young boys outside US Cellular Field on Sunday raised the spirits of Chicago police officers following an emotional week that saw the slaying of five officers in Dallas.

“We had a very pleasant little surprise at today’s White Sox game,” an officer wrote on the CPD Facebook page. “After the game had ended and the crowd was filing out, a young boy named Andrew and his little brother Lucas walked up to my officers and me, handed me a piece of paper and said thank you. I opened up the paper and saw the following words:
'Thank you CPD.
Your life matters'

The officers took turns shaking hands with the boys, then asked if they would pose with the officers along with their sign. After Andrew and Lucas autographed their sign, “they waved and walked away with their mom. We never got their last name.”

The boys’ sign will be proudly displayed at the Deering police station.

By Monday evening, the post had garnered more than 85 mostly positive comments, including Andrew and Lucas’s mom.

Since last week’s shootings in Dallas, law enforcement agencies throughout the country have been thanking community members for their outpouring of support that has included purchasing meals for on-duty officers and flowers laid outside police stations.

As for the officer outside US Cellular Field, the boys’ act of kindness was a real morale booster. “Today was the first time in a long, long time where I felt my job was worthwhile to someone other than just me,” wrote one of the policemen.
