Calling All Al Capone Fans -- We've Got a Convention You Can't Refuse
The Gangster Convention comes to Chicago on Oct. 5, and if you dress up in 1920s-era duds, you could be an extra in a movie.

In the world’s eyes, Chicago equals Al Capone. Now, the notorious gangster who defined the Prohibition Era and left an indelible imprint on organized crime in Chicago gets his own convention.
The Gangster Convention comes to the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave., on Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Several crime authors will be on hand to answer questions, including Richard Lindberg, Georgia Durante, Ellen Poulsen, Tony Stewart, Jeffrey Gusfield, Sam Amirante, Wim Dankbaar, Chriss Lyon and Daniel Waugh.

And if you’re willing to dress the part, show up in 1920s garb and you could be an extra in a Rich Larsen movie, “Capone’s Treasure of the Heart.” Larsen runs Caponefanclub.com.
Larsen will film one scene for the movie at the convention. Few people know Capone wrote a song while he was imprisoned in Alcatraz, titled “Madonna Mia,” inspired by his wife. An orchestra will play the song for a scene in Larsen’s movie. Larsen will also be looking for candidates to cast in key roles in the film — so bring your resume.

During the convention, there will be a Prohibition Era trivia contest for prizes, too.
Romeoville’s Dominic Capone, who recently appeared on a reality TV show titled “The Capones,” is also expected at the convention.
Tickets are $27.50, and you can order them online. A full schedule of events is at CaponeConvention.com.
