Cop Stops Armed Robbery At 7-Eleven
A knife-wielding robber couldn't get out the door of a store often frequented by police officers in the West Beverly neighborhood.

CHICAGO, IL — A 16-year-old committing an armed robbery at a 7-Eleven in the city's West Beverly neighborhood couldn't make it out of the store before he was confronted by a police officer. A Cook County Sheriff's Office police officer "happened to be driving by" the store at 2421 W. 103rd St. at 12:58 a.m. on the Fourth of July, just as the teen was about to leave with money from the cash register.
The boy, who police say was armed with a knife and had a T-shirt wrapped around his face while robbing the store, has now been charged with armed robbery. He also had an outstanding warrant for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to police.
The officer stopped the robbery as he walked into the store, detaining the teen until Chicago police were able to respond according to 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea. The store employee was not harmed in the incident.

7-Eleven stores on the South Side and south suburbs have become semi-frequent targets for armed robbers, with multiple incidents having been reported over the past year including an incident in early June in which a group of people have been accused of robbing the store at 103rd and Sawyer in Mount Greenwood.
The West Beverly 7-Eleven that was robbed on the Fourth is one often frequented by Chicago police officers. Even during the overnight hours it is common to see multiple squad cars parked in the parking lot off 103rd Street.
