Dance Party Plea: Emily Beazley Fans 'Shake It Off' in Message to Taylor Swift
Hundreds of kids gathered Sunday afternoon to film a video message to Taylor Swift in hopes she will reach out to ailing pre-teen.
Taylor Swift, you’ve got to see this.
Young supporters put on their dancing shoes—and their green and purple—for a performance at 115 Bourbon Street, filmed with the hopes of swaying the pop star to reach out to ailing Emily Beazley.
Hundreds of children and their families gathered at the venue for the show—planned just 24 hours earlier—in honor of 12-year-old Beazley, who is battling cancer. Her family recently learned she will never go into remission.

Maggie O’Brien Earner suggested the idea of the dance party after her 5-year-old daughter Avery came to her late one night.
“My kids wanted to do something, but they didn’t know what to do,” Earner said. “To cheer Emily up, and get the message to Taylor Swift, that she needs to come meet Emily.”

The neighborhood has taken its cue from the pre-teen, who has led the way with positivity despite a grim prognosis for the cancer that she has been battling for more than four years. As her condition worsens, the community has stepped up to show their support of their “Hero on Homan.”
With just an inkling of an idea and few resources to make it happen, Earner turned to social media to stir interest. Instantly, the pieces began to fall into place. Parents spoke up and said their children would ”Shake It Off” to help Emily meet her favorite pop star. 115 Bourbon Street stepped in as the venue, decking out the venue in purple and green and even bringing Frozen mascot “Olaf” onto stage to bop along to TSwift.
The Beazley family was unable to attend Sunday’s event, but sent a note to be passed to Swift.
“Taylor is her absolute favorite,” Emily’s family said in a statement. “She listens to her in the car on the way to appointments. Taylor blasts from the speaker in the radiation room, and is on her headphones when she received chemo.”
Emily has sent a ”wish” to organization Bear Necessities to see Swift’s concert in Chicago in July, but her parents say doctors estimate she will ”not be here then.”
Avery and the rest of Emily’s fans hope to see their friend smile, and her dream come true.
“Just to make her feel better,” Avery said of her wish to make the video.
Mt. Greenwood resident Michelle Powell wouldn’t have missed a chance to show her family’s support.
“It’s unbelievable,” Powell said, “Amazing how that little girl has impacted our neighborhood, and the city.
“What a brave little girl.”
115 Bourbon Street Manager Rachel Miklas said Emily’s parents Ed and Nadia have always supported other families’ fundraisers, and now it is their turn.
“We wanted to do anything we can to help,” Miklas said.
Will Swift hear their pleas?
“Please come see Emily,” Miklas said in a message for Swift. “She loves you, and it’s all she wants.”
