Dick Carparelli, Longtime Beverly Country Club Pro, Dies At 100

Dick Carparelli, who had been affiliated with the Beverly Country Club and the PGA since the 1940s, has died at age 100.

CHICAGO, IL - Angelo "Richard" Carparelli, a man who spent more than 70 years with the Beverly Country Club, died last week at age 100. Much of Carparelli's century-long life was spent on the golf course, having reached iconic status in the world of golf.

An obituary on Carparelli from the Kenny Brothers Funeral Home in Evergreen Park tells the story of how the game of golf stuck with him from the Great Depression, when a young Carparelli caddied to bring home earnings for his parents to the present day, when he was the Pro Emeritus at the Beverly Country Club.

Carparelli caddied at Rye Country Club years back for several famous entertainments like Al Jolson and Mack Sennett, his obituary states. He became a member of the Professional Golf Association in 1947 and was fist affiliated with the BCC a year before that.

At the Beverly club, he was first Assistant Pro and then became Head Pro before his longtime status as Pro Emeritus.

The Evergreen Park resident became known as a true South Sider, although he did grow up in New York.

He was a regular at Joe's Barber Shop on 95th Street, where he received a free haircut for his 100th birthday.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Kenny Brothers Funeral Directors, 3600 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Evergreen Park.
