‘Get Behind The Vest’ Pancake Breakfast Sets Fundraising Record
Ald. Matt Shea's pancake breakfast donated over $250,000 to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation to buy bulletproof vests for CPD officers
CHICAGO — Ald. Matt O’Shea’s eighth annual Get Behind the Vest Pancake Breakfast raised over $25,000 in two hours Sunday morning. For a second year, the breakfast was carryout due to the city’s pandemic mandates, which were lifted Feb. 28.
Volunteers flipped hundreds of flapjacks at St. John Fisher School. David Eigenberg from NBC’s “Chicago Fire,” stopped by Kane Hall to show his support for the initiative that purchases replacement bulletproof vests for Chicago police officers.
In all, combined with WGN’s David Hochberg’s Vest-A-Thon and the promotion at Kean Gas Station, O’Shea will be donating more than $250,000 to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation’s Get Behind the Vest initiative. This year has broken all previous fundraising records.
