Help Plant Trees In Beverly This Weekend

BAPA is looking for volunteers to plant trees in West Beverly and Central Beverly on Saturday, Nov. 4.

CHICAGO, IL - The Beverly Area Planning Association is looking for volunteers to help plant trees at a variety of locations in both Central and West Beverly on Saturday. BAPA Executive Director Margot Holland says it will be a "rewarding" experience for proud neighborhood residents who are interested in keeping Beverly beautiful.

"Volunteering to plant a tree is a lifelong legacy since Beverly/Morgan Park is known for beautiful trees," Holland said. "When we replant them, it's planning for our future and they are there for our future generations to enjoy."

The planting will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 4. Volunteers will meet at two locations, 2535 W. 109th St. for those who want to plant trees in West Beverly and the St. Barnabas Parking Lot, 10123 S. Longwood Dr. for those who want to plant trees along Longwood Drive in Central Beverly.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, there are still 20 open volunteer slots for the West Beverly planting and 21 openings for Central Beverly. Those interested in volunteering should reserve their place here.

BAPA partners with the Openlands organization on the tree planting and was recently recognized for an effort that saw the community pitch in to plant more than 100 trees in the neighborhood over the past year.

"It's a real neat experience," Holland said. "(Openlands representatives) teach you how to plant a tree."

The 25 trees donated to the effort by Openlands will be of all different varieties. Since many of the trees in Beverly/Morgan Park were all lost to the emerald ash borer, Holland says Openlands recommends a variety of different types of trees be planted to prevent the future possibility of something taking out all trees in an area.
