For the past week, Kean Bros. has donated 5-cents for every gallon of gas sold to the Get Behind the Vest initiative through Feb. 18. These funds will be matched by additional donors, bringing the total .15 cents per gallon being donated to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation’s initiative that helps fund new bulletproof vests for Chicago police officers. The vests have a five-year life span and can run between $500 and $600, with officers often picking up the cost themselves.
The family-owned Kean Bros. gas station has been serving the Mt. Greenwood, Beverly and Morgan Park neighborhoods for three generations. Attendants at the Kean Bros. not only pump your gas but wash windows, check oil levels and bring out store items, so drivers don't even have to get out of their vehicles. It's "full-service" in the fullest degree.
