Police Chase Ends in 3-Vehicle Crash in Mt. Greenwood
Suspects were reportedly fleeing from the Bedford Park Target with stolen televisions, official says. One driver taken to hospital.
A high-speed police chase ended in a three-vehicle crash in the Mt. Greenwood neighborhood on Thursday evening.
The crash happened at the intersection of 103rd Street and Central Park Avenue, across from Saint Xavier University at approximately 7:40 p.m.
A passenger in one of the involved vehicles said she and her husband were in their Chevy Traverse and had the green light. They were about to continue northbound on Central Park Avenue when a white Jeep flew through the red light traveling eastbound on 103rd Street.

The Jeep crashed into a Subaru Outback that was waiting to make a left turn from 103rd Street onto southbound Central Park Avenue. The impact flipped the Subaru over on to its roof.
“[The Jeep] was slowed down by the time he hit us,” the passenger in the Traverse said, who did not want to give her name. “[The Subaru driver] did get out of her car and was talking and walking. She got into an ambulance and went to the hospital.”

After the Jeep came to a rest, she said two suspects got out of the vehicle and took off in different directions. One of the suspects was apprehended in the yard of a house on the southeast corner of 103rd Street and Central Park. The second suspect was apprehended nearby on Drake Avenue.
Officers from Chicago, Bedford Park and Oak Lawn police departments were able to establish a perimeter around the area, where the two suspects were eventually caught and taken into custody.
Oak Lawn Village Manager Larry Deetjen said that chase started at the Target store at 7100 S. Cicero Ave. in Bedford Park, when the suspects reportedly stole TVs from the store.
Police closed off 103rd Street from Hamlin to Central Park Avenue. Officers were still on the scene investigating an hour later. The couple in the damaged Chevy Traverse also remained on the scene.
The Jeep’s airbag could be seen deployed inside the vehicle.
Security officers at the Bedford Park Target would not comment on the reported incident.
