Principal, Alderman To Work Drive-Thru For Polar Plunge Team

Marist High School Principal Larry Tucker and Ald. O'Shea will work the drive-thru at the Buona Beef in Beverly on Wednesday.

CHICAGO, IL - With many area high schools taking part in the Chicago Polar Plunge this year to raise money for the Special Olympics Chicago program, one school is taking a particularly creative approach to coming up with the funds.

Marist High School Principal Larry Tucker will work the drive through at the Buona Beef restaurant at 10633 S. Western Ave. in Beverly to raise money for the school's Polar Plunge team on Wednesday. He'll be joined by 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea, one who often takes on endeavors with local businesses to promote good causes.

Recently, O'Shea spent an afternoon pumping gas at the Kean Bros Gas Station to help raise money for the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation's "Get Behind the Vest" campaign. He has since challenged students from Marist, Brother Rice, Mother McAuley, St. Ignatius, Mount Carmel, St. Rita and the Chicago High School for Agricultural Science to come up with teams to send to the Polar Plunge on Sunday, March 4 at North Avenue Beach.

The event is the largest and most popular annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Chicago. To help encourage participation from the schools, the minimum donation for a polar plunger will be $100, not the usual $200, for students.

Tucker and O'Shea will be at Buona Beef taking orders on Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 4-7 p.m., when Buona Beef will donate 20 percent of all sales to benefit the team of Marist plungers. The drive through is best accessible via 107th Street, just east of Western. The restaurant will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. that day.
