In March, Original Rainbow Cone announced on its website that it was ending its long relationship with The Creamery. Owner William A. McEnery announced plans to auction off the south suburban ice cream parlor chain before ice cream season got rolling.

After testifying at a Chicago City Council hearing against the city’s minimum wage ordinance last December, there was speculation that Original Rainbow Cone would leave its iconic pink castle for the suburbs, DNA Info reported.
