Residents On Alert After 2 Robberies In Beverly: CPD
Ald. Matt O'Shea says "Chicago is facing a public safety crisis" after two robberies were reported Monday in Beverly.

CHICAGO — Chicago police are alerting 19th Ward residents of two robberies that happened Monday in the Beverly neighborhood. Several residents have come forward who reported a suspicious vehicle seen in the area at the time of the robberies.
Around 4:10 p.m. Monday, multiple men, wearing masks and colored sweatshirts, approached a person and demanded their property in the 10100 block of South Oakley Avenue. Later, just before 7 p.m., police believe the same group approached another person in the 2400 block of West 105th Street. The men were on foot.
Residents reported seeing a dark-colored SUV with damage to the rear passenger side and window, police said.

In an email to residents, Ald. Matt O’Shea (19th) said Chicago is facing a public safety crisis, called for correcting police staffing levels and enacting laws that will hold criminals accountable.
“These most recent incidents illustrate yet again the urgent need for more Chicago police officers and common sense public safety laws,” O’Shea said. “Without a significant increase in police hiring, Chicago will not be able to address this out of control crime problem. That is why I introduced an ordinance to provide cash incentives to help recruit new officers to the academy. Unfortunately, these incentives have not been included in Mayor Lightfoot's 2023 budget proposal, but it is something I will continue to work to fund with my colleagues in the City Council.”

O’Shea also took to task the SAFE-T Act that takes effect Jan.1, 2023, and will eliminate cash bail.
“This dangerous, misguided legislation is absolutely wrong for Illinois,” the alderman said. “That is why I joined several of my colleagues in sponsoring a resolution opposing the Safe-T Act and calling for hearings on it in the City Council.”
Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact CPD Area 2 detectives at 312-747-8273.
