Shared Cost Sidewalk Program Opens Monday for Requests
Applications for the program will be accepted starting Jan. 9 for homeowners looking to share the cost of sidewalk repairs with the city.
CHICAGO — 19th Ward homeowners in need of sidewalk repair will no longer have to foot the entire cost themselves. The Chicago Department of Transportation's 2023 Shared Cost Sidewalk Program will open to new applicants starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 9. This service is in very high demand and has limited funding. In previous years, the Shared Cost Sidewalk Program has closed in as little as 10 hours.
Applications will only be accepted through the city’s 311 system by calling 311, through the City’s service request website CHI311, or through the free CHI311 mobile apps on iOS Apple, and Android. The property owner’s contact information and the property address are required at the time of the request.
The Shared Costs Sidewalk program is a voluntary initiative in which property owners share the cost of sidewalk repairs with the city. Thousands of city residents have participated in the program which, in the past, has closed within 10 hours of opening due to the popularity of the program.
