Smith Village Caregiver Support Group Shares Tips To Ease Anxiety
Smith Village caregiver support group offers strategies for easing a loved one with dementia's anxiety, Tuesday, April 18.
CHICAGO — How can a caregiver help a loved one with dementia ease a sense of anxiety? How can caregivers mediate their own anxiety?
These and other topics will be discussed during the Caregiver Support Group at Smith
Village at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, in the Smith Village Club Room, 2320 West 113th
Place, in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. Meetings are planned for the third Tuesday of
every month.
Those living with dementia often experience anxiety about their changing condition.
Likewise, as the pressures of supporting a loved one mount, caregivers can feel
overwhelmed by their own worries. During the April meeting, leaders and members of this
support group will share practical solutions and tools about how to manage anxiety.

The neighborhood meeting is free and open to those who are caregivers in any way
for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or another kind of dementia. Alzheimer’s Association
volunteers Alice Keane and Bridget Murphy will lead the group.
Participants are encouraged to share their own experiences and practical caregiving
information, including tips on managing stress and maintaining their own physical and mental
health. This group provides a confidential, safe and supportive environment and aims to
combat the isolation many caregivers experience.
