Stickney Man Denied Pre-Trial Release In Beverly Home Invasion: Police

The man was apprehended by the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force on suspicion of home invasion that left a 67-year-old man seriously injured.

CHICAGO — A Stickney man has been charged in connection to a violent home invasion that took place last month in Beverly that left a 67-year-old man seriously injured. Joey Miller, 25, has been charged with attempted murder, home invasion/causing injury, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Around 3:10 p.m. March 24, Miller is said to have forced his way into a home on the 2600 block of West 103rd Street. Once inside he battered a 67-year-old man with a “dangerous weapon,” 22nd District Chicago Police said. The older man was seriously injured.

Miller was arrested Thursday by members of the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force in the 7100 block of West 40th Street in Stickney, police said.

Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) who attended Friday's hearing, said the older resident had hired Miller to do home repairs.

"This is an important first step toward justice and accountability in this case ..." O'Shea said in an email to 19th Ward residents. "The disturbing circumstances of this case remind us that as a community we have to do more to look out for our neighbors, especially senior citizens."

Miller is due back in court April 1 in the Branch 38 Courthouse, 727 E. 111th St., Chicago.
