Western Avenue Businesses Targeted By Brick-Throwing Thieves

Overnight burglars threw bricks in the windows of two businesses at 105th and Western over the past week.

CHICAGO, IL - Businesses in the city's Beverly neighborhood, specifically the ones along Western Avenue, are on high alert after a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries have been reported in recent days. In a number of incidents, police reported thieves throwing bricks into the windows of the businesses while they are closed and then taking items from inside.

Chicago police say two businesses in the 10500 block of South Western were reported burglarized on consecutive nights, the first having occurred at 4:37 a.m. on Aug. 26 and the next between midnight and 8 a.m. on Aug. 27.

A few days later, on Aug. 31, police say a similar incident occurred at 4:41 a.m. in the 11500 block of South Western.

Then, on Sept. 2, it was a business in the 11200 block of South Halsted Street that was burglarized at 2:53 a.m.

Video has surfaced from one of the incidents. Police say it shows two men wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks covering their faces while breaking into a business.

Police recommend business owners install a working alarm and have a minimal amount of lights on overnight.
