Western Avenue Voted Most Iconic Street In The Neighborhood
The famous thoroughfare edged out 111th Street as the best in the neighborhood.

CHICAGO - Fans of Beverly-Mt. Greenwood Patch on Facebook voted overwhelmingly in favor of Western Avenue as the most iconic street in the neighborhood. A poll questions posed a few weeks ago asked which thoroughfare is more iconic, Western or 111th Street.
Western prevailed by a 77 percent to 23 percent margin with 230 votes cast in the span of a week.
There was at least one write-in vote for Longwood Drive, of which an argument could certainly be made.

But voters were on point in picking Western. After all, its legendary status goes well beyond just Beverly and Morgan Park.
The longest continuous street in the country spans more than 23 miles from where it becomes Olde Western Avenue in Blue Island all the way north to the border of Chicago and Evanston, where it becomes Asbury Avenue.
