Ivan Atilano, 37, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempted murder and seven years for home invasion.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A Bolingbrook man was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Friday in connection to a September 2022 stabbing of a resident in his own home, according to the Will County State's Attorney's Office.
Ivan Atilano, 37, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempted murder and seven years for home invasion, the state's attorney's office said.

Atilano was standing in the yard and asked his ex-girlfriend to speak with him. When she refused, Atilano became angry and pushed her down a flight of stairs, according to the state's attorney's office.
Atilano entered the home and jumped on the man. While the man was on the ground, Atilano stabbed him multiple times as his ex-girlfriend yelled at Atilano to stop and tried hitting him in the back, the state's attorney's office said.

The woman’s 9-year-old daughter, who was also staying at the home at the time, saw the stabbing. The stabbing victim's sister also heard what was happening and came out of her room to see what was wrong, the state's attorney's office said.
Atilano fled the home, running up the stairs and out of the house. When officers arrived, they found the man in the basement with multiple stab wounds, the state's attorney's office said.
Atilano would have been entitled to 404 days of credit for time in jail already, but he is currently
serving a one-year sentence for contempt of court, which reduces his credit for time served to 222
days, the state's attorney's office said.
Atilano also faces a pending arson case, which was committed in the Adult Detention
Facility, following his conviction on this case. His 18-year sentence will be served at 85 percent.
“Atilano brutally stabbed the victim after pushing her mother down a flight of stairs, as a little
girl watched,” State's Attorney Jim Glasgow said in a release. “He will have plenty of time to reflect upon his viciousness and uncontrolled rage while sitting in a cold prison cell.”
