Bolingbrook Man Found Guilty In 2022 Stabbing, Attempted Murder
The incident happened in September 2022, when Ivan Atilano tracked down his ex-girlfriend and stabbed the person she was staying with.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A Bolingbrook man charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in September 2022 was found guilty by a jury on Thursday, according to a news release from the Will County State's Attorney's Office.
The jury found Ivan Atilano, 37, guilty of attempted murder, home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated battery, criminal trespass to residence and domestic battery.
In September 2022, Atilano tracked down an ex-girlfriend, who was sleeping at another person's home. She heard noises in the backyard, and went outside to check around midnight, according to the state's attorney's office. Atilano was standing in the yard, and asked the woman to speak with him.

She refused, and Atilano became angry and pushed her down a flight of stairs, the State's Attorney's Office said. Atilano then entered the home and jumped on the homeowner. While the victim was on the ground, Atilano stabbed him multiple times, while the woman yelled at him to stop and tried hitting him in the back.
A child at the home also witnessed the stabbing, the State's Attorney's Office said. The homeowner's sister heard the commotion and came out of her room to see what was wrong, the State's Attorney's Office said.

Atilano then fled, and ran out of the house. Officers arrived and found the homeowner in the basement with multiple stab wounds, the State's Attorney's Office said.
Atilano also has a prior felony conviction from 2009 for possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Sentencing is scheduled for June 27.
The sentencing range for Atilano is 12 to 60 years, according to the State's Attorney's Office.
