Heart screenings, programs offered at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital

Summary: Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is hosting screenings and programs in February for American Heart Month. Dr. Dominick Stella will present “State of the Heart” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, 500 Remington Blvd. in Bolingbrook. The hospital also is offering free blood pressure screenings and a free pedometer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 and Thursday, Feb. 24 in the hospital lobby.

Learn about the benefits of diet and exercise at “State of the Heart,” presented by Dr. Dominick Stella at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, 500 Remington Blvd. in Bolingbrook. Stella, an interventional cardiologist, will also review the role of antioxidants and cholesterol-lowering medication.

Despite advances over the years, heart disease is still the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S., but it can be prevented. Detecting and treating conditions such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure before symptoms occur can greatly reduce the risk of heart attacks.

 

Those attending the free event will be offered a free heart score, valued at $400. A heart score is a complete cardiac risk assessment that includes testing for cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar, an EKG, and body fat and personal lifestyle analysis.

 

Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is also offering free blood pressure screenings and a free pedometer to help keep track of heart healthy steps from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 and Thursday, Feb. 24 in the hospital lobby.

 

Also during February, Dr. Neeraj Jain, a specialist in pain management, will discuss effective treatment for managing chronic neck and back pain at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital. Those attending the free event can learn more about the causes of chronic neck and back pain, such as injury, cancer or shingles, and how to manage pain for a more active life.

 

During American Heart Month, Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital is offering lipid profiles which measure total cholesterol ratios for $35. Screening for excess levels of homocysteine, which can be associated with heart disease and stroke is offered at $95. The high sensitivity C- reactive protein test, which can be an indicator of risk for heart disease, will be available for $45 and an A1c test that measures sugar in the blood will be offered for $50.

 

A lipid profile and fasting glucose test package will be offered for $38 and a diabetes check, fasting glucose and A1c test package will be available for $42.
