Bolingbrook Felon Brought Loaded Gun To Will County Courthouse: Sheriff

The sheriff's office said that court security officers and sheriff's deputies "prevented a serious security threat" at the courthouse.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A Bolingbrook man is facing multiple felony charges after he was found with a semi-automatic handgun inside his jacket at the Will County Courthouse, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said that court security officers and sheriff's deputies "prevented a serious security threat" at the courthouse on Tuesday morning.

During routine screening at security, officers identified a loaded Ruger .380 semi-automatic handgun containing six hollow-point rounds concealed inside a jacket worn by Gregory Williams, 60, of Bolingbrook, the sheriff's office said.

Williams is a convicted felon and was scheduled to appear in Courtroom 501 on a prior gun charge.

Williams was taken into custody without incident. Following a criminal investigation and consultation with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, multiple felony charges were approved, including unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm on government/courthouse property, and violation of pre-trial release.

Additional charges are pending review, the sheriff's office said.

"We are grateful that no one was harmed, and this incident underscores why courthouse security measures matter. The safety of the public, court staff, and justice system participants is paramount. Today’s outcome reflects the vigilance, training, and dedication of our personnel," the sheriff's office said.
