NAPERVILLE, IL — 10-year-old Bolingbrook boy Mason suffers from a seizure disorder called intractable epilepsy, which means his seizures cannot be controlled using any sort of treatment.

But that isn’t going to stop him from achieving his dreams, and with the help from Make-A-Wish Illinois and Topgolf, Mason will be heading to Hawaii to make that happen.

But when Mason went to Topgolf in Naperville on Sunday, he didn’t know anything about it. Topgolf was so taken with Mason’s story that they threw him a huge surprise party to announce it. The bar in the business’s Signature Room was decked out to look like a tiki bar and there were leis for all the guests, according to a press release. Mason’s favorite superhero, Spider-Man, also made an appearance, as did 40 of Mason’s friends and family.

In addition to learning he was going to Hawaii, Mason was able to spend the day golfing and eating Hawaiian-themed foods like pineapple and soy marinated grilled pork loin and pomegranate glazed shrimp.

Unfortunately, Mason’s health has been declining recently so the family is very much looking forward to the trip to spend as much time with him as possible and make it a memorable vacation. Accompanying Mason on the trip will be his mom, dad and step parents.

Mason will celebrate his 11th birthday in Hawaii. He will visit Pearl Harbor, attend a luau and snorkel with dolphins.

“He has always wanted to go there so that is why he chose that for his wish,” said the release. “He’s most excited to see a new place and spend time with his family.”

A Make-A-Wish representative said working with families like Mason’s and giving them something they can do together is very rewarding.
