Annual Cinco De Mayo Parade In Little Village Canceled

The parade was scheduled for May 6.

CHICAGO, IL — A popular Cinco de Mayo parade in Little Village won't be happening this year, the city said. Parade organizers said the event was canceled because Ald. George Cardenas (12th) didn't offer them enough support. Cardenas denied the claim and said organizers didn't complete the proper permit paperwork for the parade.

The Cermak Road Chamber of Commerce coordinates the parade, and claimed that Cardenas created "confusion" for residents by promoting other Cinco de Mayo events that were scheduled to take place at the same time as the parade.

The annual parade was scheduled for May 6. The city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events said it was notified of the cancellation on Friday.
