The District 214 Honors Orchestra/Choir was recently selected among 400 applicants in five categories as one of five semi-finalists in the "School Ensemble" performance category for "The American Prize."  The American Prize is a national competition that recognizes professional, university, youth, community, and school ensembles based on recorded performances.

The American Prize committee of professional performers and conductors reviewed District 214's recording, which featured the final movement from Honors Orchestra/Choir performance of Carmina Burana, the first movement from the Gregson Tuba Concerto featuring Serena Voltz (JHHS), and Tchaikovsky's Symphony 4 finale from our fall concert.

According to proud director of the District 214 Honors Orchestra, Patrick O'Connor, "A second round of judging will take place in the coming weeks and the winner in each category will be awarded a cash prize."
