Buffalo Grove Man Killed While Walking Owned Dance School: GoFundMe

Roman Mazur, 87, was returning from a morning jog when he was struck and killed by a car Monday morning.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Roman Mazur, the founder and owner of a dance school in Buffalo Grove, is being remembered as a "visionary choreographer and a producer, known for his unique approach to dance, composition, and costume design." Mazur, 87, was tragically killed Monday after being struck by a car.

Julia Khrakovsky, Mazur's niece, has set up a GoFundMe for Roman Mazur's beloved wife, Tatyana, who is "facing this heartbreaking loss." As of Wednesday afternoon, the campaign has raised more than $2,000 of a $5,000 goal.

After being struck by a car while returning home from a morning jog, Mazur was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a 60-year-old resident of Buffalo Grove, was also taken to the hospital by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department for precautionary reasons.

According to the GoFundMe, Mazur "was truly a larger-than-life figure whose passion for dance and creativity inspired countless individuals." While living in his native Ukraine 60 years ago, he founded the ensemble, "A Flight Over Kiev."

After immigrating to the United States, he established Mazurdance in Buffalo Grove's Plaza Verde on Dundee Road. He later also opened a studio in Cleveland, serving as artistic director at both locations.

Khrakovsky said her uncle's contributions to the community "were immense, as he supported numerous events and fundraisers, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered."
