“Our law enforcement personnel are proud of the efforts over the Memorial Day period, as we believe we played a role in saving the lives of many Buffalo Grove citizens,” said Buffalo Grove Police Sgt. Anthony Goldstein. “Buckling up is one of the easiest ways to ensure you stay safe during a crash. Those who were not wearing seat belts were ticketed. Our hope is that they realize we do this to remind them that we care about their safety.”
This year, the goal of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was to increase campaign participation by coordinating a “Coast to Coast” seat belt enforcement effort, to include all law enforcement around specific interstate corridors in the village.

According to research conducted by NHTSA, 88.5 percent of passenger vehicle occupants buckled up in 2015, and 50 percent of occupants in fatal crashes nationwide were not restrained. In some states, the rate was as high as 70 percent for those unrestrained in fatal crashes. T
“The ‘Coast to Coast’ effort helped our enforcement team understand the gravity of the situation,” Goldstein said. “As such, we approached seat belt violators with a zero-tolerance mentality.” For more information on the Click It or Ticket campaign, please visit www.nhtsa.gov/ciot.
