Four District 214 speech teams finished in the top six at the recent Mid Suburban League Speech Team Tournament held at Harper College. With a record-breaking score of 99 points, Prospect High School was named tournament champions. Buffalo Grove High School took 2nd place; Elk Grove High School came in 4th place; and John Hersey High School came in 6th place. Additionally, District 214 students were named tournament champions in 13 of 14 events: Prospect’s Josh Arshonsky and Kit Fitzgerald-Dramatic Duet Acting; Josh Arshonsky and James Farquharson-Humorous Duet Acting; Emily McNally-Impromptu Speaking; Jimmy McDermott-Oratorical Declamation; Andrew Pittman-Original Comedy; James Farquharson-Prose Reading; and Leanne Gadow-Special Occasion Speaking; John Hersey’s Dan Niersbach-Extemporaneous Speaking; Elk Grove’s Dustin Beelow- Original Oratory and Poetry Reading; and Buffalo Grove’s Georgette Voss-Dramatic Interpretation; Nijole Laverd-Humorous Interpretation; and Caitlyn Anderson-Informative Speaking.
