Duo Steals $3K In Facial Products At CVS: Buffalo Grove Police Blotter

A woman distracted an employee, while a man stole the items, according to police.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED/REVOKED

  • Ricardo J. Callejas, of the 7500 block of S. Elmhurst Road, Des Plaines, is accused of driving while license suspended, using an electronic communication device while driving, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:18 p.m. Aug. 24, in the 100 block of Dundee Road. During a traffic stop, it was established Callejas had an outstanding warrant out of DuPage County. When he was unable to post a $3,000 bond, Callejas was taken to DuPage County Jail without incident.
  • Marco A. Gomez, 22, of the 2200 block of W. Nichols Road, Arlington Heights, is accused of driving on a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 10:17 p.m. Aug. 25, at Lake Cook and Weidner roads. Gomez also had an outstanding warrant out of DuPage County for failure to appear in court. He was released after posting a percentage of the $6,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Sept. 27.
  • Julio Ceasar Martinez-Puntos, 22, of the 1500 block of Winslow, Palatine, is accused of driving on a suspended license, disregarding a stop sign, and was arrested at 12:07 a.m. Aug. 28, at West Dundee and Old Arlington Heights roads. He was also cited for possession of cannabis. He was released after paying a percentage of the $1,500 bond and was assigned a court date of Oct. 12.

PROPERTY DAMAGE/WARRANT ARREST

A citizen called police at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 25, to report a private property crash in the 700 block of Corporate Grove Drive. The person told police that while standing near their vehicle, she saw it get struck by another driver, who was backing out. Police met with the other driver, Marquise Murray, 20, of the 90 block of N. Crooked Lake Lane, Lindenhurst, and discovered he had a warrant out of DuPage County for failure to appear in court. Bond was set at $3,000 and a court date of Sept. 26 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

DISPUTE

A customer of the gas station at Woodman's Food Market, 1500 E. Deerfield Parkway, Buffalo Grove, reported at 12:33 p.m. Aug. 24, she was confronted by an elderly man, who was very rude and used numerous profanities while yelling at her to move out of his way. She told several gas station attendants, who then asked the man to leave. An attendant told police it was the second time they had seen the same man causing a problem with other customers. Police were able to locate the man near his home. He told police that he yelled at the woman because she appeared to be talking on her cell phone when she should have been dispensing gasoline into her vehicle. He also acknowledged the prior incident, but didn't remember any details. Police said they admonished the man for his behavior and issued him a trespass warning.

THEFT

A Mill Creek Drive resident called police on Aug. 23 to report they ordered a pair of earbuds in the early morning, with a scheduled delivery for that day. After returning from work at 1 p.m., the resident realized the ear buds were not there even though delivery had occurred at 9:30 a.m., according to Amazon.

FIRE/EXPLOSION

Police responded to a fire assist at 6:14 p.m. Aug. 25 in the 2100 block of Brandywyn Lane. Upon arrival, they found smoke in the surrounding area and were notified by fire officials that it had been upgraded to a fire response. The homeowner told police that when they arrived home, they smelled smoke and noticed the windows were unusually dark. RETAIL THEFT

  • The manager of a CVS Pharmacy, 20 E. Dundee Road, reported that between 12:49 p.m. and 12:54 p.m. Aug. 28, two people stole $2,911.99 worth of facial products. The manager said one female came in the store and distracted an employee, while a male grabbed the items and placed them into a bag. Both left the store without paying and headed in an unknown direction.
  • A manager at Woodman's Grocery, 1550 E. Deerfield Parkway, reported that at 7:40 p.m. Aug. 28, a man walked into the store, grabbed a black garbage bag off a shelf and walked into the liquor area. They placed 13 various bottles, valued at $602.63, into the garbage bag and then into a cart. As they were leaving the store without paying for the items, an employee got their attention and the man began running to a vehicle. He fled the parking lot southbound on Milwaukee Avenue in a gray four-door Toyota.

THEFT FROM A BUILDING

A citizen reported at 2:38 p.m. Aug. 29, that shipping pallets last seen stored in a temporary shipping bay several hours earlier were now missing in the 1600 block of Barclay Boulevard. He had not heard or seen anyone in the area.
