Earl Pritchett Named One of Top 5 Elementary Schools in Lake County: Magazine

Buffalo Grove High School also made Chicago magazine's list, which ranked the top schools in the city and the suburbs.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Two Buffalo Grove schools were named to Chicago magazine's list of the best elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties, which was released this week.

In Lake County, Earl Pritchett Elementary School was ranked No. 4. Among Cook County high schools, Buffalo Grove earned the No. 11 spot.

Half Day School in Lincolnshire earned the No. 1 ranking among Lake County elementaries, and Libertyville High School took the stop spot in its category. In those same categories for Cook County, Proviso Math and Science Academy in Forest Park was first among high schools, and Northfield's Middlefork Primary School was No. 1 for elementary schools.

Teaming up with nonprofit group RTI International, Chicago magazine created the criteria for its best of lists—divided by county and school level—based on test scores, attendance, spending per student, graduation rates (for the high schools) and other data taken from the Illinois Board of Education. The publication hasn't done this type of school analysis and ranking since 2012.

Here's a quick breakdown of the numbers that helped the Buffalo Grove schools earn their rankings:

Earl Pritchett Elementary School (No. 4)

  • Spending per student: $9,008
  • Freshmen meeting or exceeding state standards: 72 percent
  • Graduation rate: 96 percent

Buffalo Grove High School (No. 11)

  • Spending per student: $11,820
  • Students meeting or exceeding state PARCC exam standards: 95 percent
  • Average daily attendance: 93 percent

Other nearby high schools that made the publication's list included:

  • William Fremd High School, Palatine (No. 5)
  • Rolling Meadows High School, Rolling Meadows (No. 7)
  • Prospect High School, Mount Prospect (No. 9)
  • James B. Conant High School, Hoffman Estates (No. 10)
  • Schaumbug High School, Schaumburg (No. 12)
  • Hoffman Estates High School, Hoffman Estates (No. 15)
  • Palatine High School, Palatine (No. 16)
  • Elk Grove High School, Elk Grove Village (No. 19)

Among elementaries, six Schaumburg schools made Chicago's list. Of those, Enders-Salk Elementary School, Hoover Math and Science Academy and Thomas Dooley Elementary School were ranked the highest at Nos. 5-7, respectively.

Three Barrington elementary schools also earned spots: Grove Avenue (No. 2), Arnett C. Lines (No. 7) and Roslyn Road (No. 8).
