"I don't want to compromise the integrity of the follow-up investigation," Budds said when asked for details about the manner of how the family members died and the weapon used.
Budds did confirm that an animal was also found dead in the home.
Police were called to the home at 11:12 a.m. for a well-being check on a woman. Budds said a 911 call was received by police from a co-worker of a "deceased female in the house."
Upon arrival, police were unable to make contact with anyone inside and forced entry into the house, where they found the adults and children dead.
"Today is a very sad day for our community as we continue to process this unthinkable event," Budds said.
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force is assisting in the investigation.
